Abbey Hey Preview
Ross Lunt our UCFB Media Student previews tomorrow's NWCFL Premier League game against Abbey Hey FC
Stockport Town are looking to bounce back after last week’s loss against Colne, as Abbey Hey welcome The Lions to the Abbey Stadium.
Town are looking to get back to winning ways following the unfortunate 3-1 defeat against Colne at SSV in the league. Tomorrow, Town take a short trip to the Abbey Stadium to play against the nearest neighbours for them, Abbey Hey, to hopefully return to winning ways.
Saturday’s 3-1 loss was disappointing for Town as they went into the game on the back off 4 straight wins. 16 minutes in, Dan McLaughin scored to help take the lead against Colne. Colne were able to hit straight back getting an equaliser in the 22nd minute and for the rest of the half it was a evenly contested game, with some smart stops from Josh Schofield.
The second half didn’t start as well as the first did for Town, as Colne were able to get two goals in the 56th and 58th minute. Town tried their hardest to get another goal and start a comeback, but it wasn’t meant to be.
The Opponents:
Abbey Hey FC are in their first season in the NWCFL Premier Division after they beat Town in the promotion playoff final on penalties in the South Division last season. So far this season they sit in 14th place and currently are four points behind Barnoldswick town in 13th.
The Red Rebels are currently on a three-game losing streak after losing against the sides of Charnock Richard, FC Isle of Man and Atherton LR. In these three matches they have conceded 11 goals in total. Last time out for the Reds it was a 4-1 loss at home against Atherton LR in the FA Vase.
