Droylsden Match Report

Stockport Town fall short of the next round of the Macron Cup after losing 3-0 to Droylsden FC

Heading into this match The Lions were not only looking to progress through to the next round of the Macron Cup but also looking to get back to winning ways after a 4-1 loss away from home just two days prior.

The Bloods were also looking to progress through to the next round but were mainly looking to keep their good run of form up as they have won four out of the last five games.

The start of the match already showed that both teams were hunting for that win as both Droylsden and Town kept pressuring the other sides defence for the first 10 minutes.

In the 15th minute, Droylsden started a counterattack and almost scored, the ball was blasted past Schofield but somehow hit the post. It rebounded back to a Droylsden player who set it back into the box but as it landed for another Droylsden player it ended up being called as offside by the Assistant Referee.

More chances kept coming for Droylsden during the first half. Eventually the first card of the match was given out in the 26th minute as Droylsdens Kilheeney ended up slide tackling one of Town’s players but catching him in the leg leading to the booking.

In the 36th minute, Droylsden play the ball behind Town’s defence and into the path of Kattah who heads the ball past Schofield leading to the first goal of the match.

In the 44th minute, Droylsden got another chance to double their lead but in one of best moments for Town, Schofield saved two point blank shot from Droylsden to keep Town in the match.

At the break Town made three substitutions with Harvey, McLaughin, Lewis coming off and Kilner, Omokua, Depezia coming on.

It didn’t take long for Droylsden to double their lead as in the 54th minute, the ball was crossed into Town’s box and Kattah was able to get a foot on it and beat Schofield at the near post.

In the 61th minute, the ball fall in the path for Kattah, who slotted into the empty net making it 3-0 for Droylsden and  giving Kattah his hat-trick.

Town made their last sub of the match taking the captain Foulds off and putting Edos Oni on. Shortly before being taken off Markell Foulds has Town’s best chance of the game as his header from a deep right wing corner went just wide.

In the 81st minute, a Droylsden player was brought down in the box after a late lunge, surprisingly the referee didn’t give a penalty and waved away the calls for the penalty.

The full-time whistle blew and The Bloods celebrated as they progressed through to the next round of the Macron Cup. Meanwhile, Stockport Town’s next match is back at the Stockport Sports Village where they play AFC Liverpool on Saturday 23rd November.
