MANAGERIAL CHANGES AT TOWN
Stockport Town Football Club are delighted to confirm the appointment of captain Paul Turnbull and
coach Mike Jeffries as the club’s new first-team managerial team.
The appointment of Stockport County legend Paul and former Burnley Academy Coach Mike comes
as Matt Jansen leaves the club, in order to return to his duties of supporting the playing and
coaching staff at Stockport County.
We would like to put on record our thanks to Matt for all of his hard work since joining the club in
the summer, and we wish him the best of luck upon his return to Carrington.
Paul will continue to play for the first-team alongside his new job, as he takes on his first managerial
role following a fantastic playing career full of experience in non-league and the Football League,
which included over 250 appearances for Stockport County.
He will be joined in leading the first-team by Mike, who takes on the role alongside his duties
working in the Stockport County Academy as Lead Professional Development Phase Coach. He too
brings with him a wealth of experience, having previously been an Academy Coach at Burnley, Bury
and FC Halifax Town amongst others.
General Manager Jonothan Gains said:
“We are absolutely delighted to be able to welcome both Paul and Mike on board as the new
managers of Stockport Town.
“It’s an exciting time to be involved with the Club right now, as we look to establish ourselves as a
launchpad for the development of future careers in football, both for players and for coaches, and
the appointment of these two young and hungry coaches certainly fits that ethos.
“I’d also like to again thank Matt Jansen for all of his hard work and efforts during his time at the
club. Matt was brought in to the Club to help set up the new infrastructure at Town following the
takeover of Mark Stott, and he now passes on the baton to Bully and Mike having achieved just that.
We wish him all the best back at Stockport County.
First-Team Manager Paul Turnbull said:
“I’m really grateful to have been given the opportunity to take my first steps into first-team
management here at Stockport Town, a club I’ve loved being a part of since joining in the Summer.
“I’ve really enjoyed playing under Matt since he brought me in to the Club, and want to thank him
for that and wish him well back at County, where I’m sure he’ll have a big impact.
“For myself and Mike, who I’m delighted to have the chance to work alongside, we can’t wait to get
started and help develop this exciting group of young players. Our attention now turns to Saturday’s
home game against Sandbach United, and we look forward to seeing the Town fans down at
Stockport Sports Village.”
