Padiham Match Report
Playoff chasing Stockport Town were defeated in a crucial league game against in form Padiham FC in the last game of the year.
The Lions lost 3-1 away from home against fellow playoff chasers and in form Padiham FC in the last game of the year.
It wouldn’t take long for the match to see its first goal as only 20 seconds in The Storks pressed Town into giving up the ball and with their first shot of the afternoon, Tyler Jones slots it into the back of net and puts the hosts in the lead.
In the third minute of the game, Padiham’s Lee Pugh received a booking for a missed timed challenge.
In the 25th minute, Town trie to start a counterattack in an attempt to draw level, Padiham intercepted it and from outside the box Josh Briggs fired it home, putting The Storks two goals ahead inside the opening 20 minutes of the game.
Just two minutes later though Town found a way back into the game. Town’s Josh Edwards was sent through on the left hand side and fired a shot straight brilliantly into the bottom left corner.
Both sides were hungry for another goal as they kept having chance and chance but neither side managed to get a goal.
In the 37th minute, due to a poor challenge on a Padiham player, Callum Gardner was booked.
In the 39th minute, Padiham almost made it 3-1 but Schofield was able to pull of a great save at his right post and to keep the scoreline 2-1.
In the 43rd minute, after a heavy tackle by Padiham, Jamie Walsh was forced off the pitch with an injury and was replaced by Toby Green.
Just before half time, Padiham got a penalty, the penalty was taken and was saved brilliantly by Schofield, but it deflected back to the striker and into the net. However, the ref gave an indirect freekick to Town due to Joel Brownhill being in the penalty area when the penalty was being taken.
Just two minutes later, an awful challenge by Padiham saw Harrison Lomakin-Rogers go down injured and Bradley Knox would be booked.
The Half was brought to an end after an entertaining first half.
In the 54th minute, Harley Monaghan was booked for a miss timed tackle.
Town made another change in the 56th minute, this saw Keane Barugh come off for George Omokua and his substitution made an immediate impact on the game as Town started having more chances.
Town decided to make their third change of the game in the 61st minute, this change saw Edwards be replaced by Freddie Walker.
Just after the substitution, Padiham had a great chance after Ethan Padden was caught out of position but the chance was wasted and went wide of Schofield post.
In the 73rd minute, Padiham made their first change of the game, Brownhill came off and Hebda came on.
In the 74th minute a freekick was given to Padiham and the shot from all of 25 yards flew straight into the top right corner of Town’s net and gave the hosts a two-goal lead again.
In the 84th and 88th minute Town made more changes. Town saw Lomakin-Rogers and Dan Mclaughlin come off for Kylan Depeiaza and Jeffry Edos Oni. Meanwhile, for Padiham, in the 82nd, 86th and 88th minute they subbed off Knox, Pugh and Briggs with Hyun Seol, Gabriel Cole and Joel Melia coming on.
Not long after coming on, Padiham’s Melia was sent off for a horrible on Town’s Ethan Padden, as a result Ethan Padden sustained a nasty cut to his leg.
That decision would be the last major incident of the game as the ref blew for full time and Padiham would take all three points.
